Biting your nails can weaken intelligence!
Children who take the habit of biting their nails don’t know it, but they risk weakening their IQ, which is what was found during a recent study on the subject.
How could such a harmless and certainly ugly habit, possibly slow down cerebral development? According to Russian scientists at the origin of this study, children who nibble the ends of their fingernails are more likely than others to suffer from lead poisoning. Metal that can be very bad for the health, is concentrated under the nails when children evolve in an environment with a strong dust content, whether they are outdoors or indoors.
We were already aware that high exposure to lead provoked serious cerebral damage, particularly affecting the nervous system. However lead can be found in natural quantities in the soil, such as in dust and particularly in urban environments. Samples taken from improperly washed fruits and vegetables also showed that these foods were at risk. Professions such as plumbing or industrial painting are particularly exposed, owing to the paint and chemical concrete used.
