Deontology is my profession
More and more companies have begun to implement guidelines on "work ethics". To do this, they have hired the services of "deontologists" who supervise the company’s moral values and behavior.
Isn’t profit a company’s paramount point of reference? Nowadays, employers have taken on the added role of becoming more and more socially responsible. The concept of emotional intelligence has recently peaked the interest of management committees who now understand the benefits of establishing a moral framework. By wearing a “snow white” coat, a company maintains a blemish-free reputation, in the eyes of the general public, business partners and more importantly, their shareholders. The latter are more and more inclined to invest in companies who are well reputed in practicing socially responsible behavior. This is the advantage of the code of ethics. A list of rules is imposed on a company in order to prove that, besides cash benefit, it also possesses an understanding and a certain consideration for the world around which it revolves. Basically, these companies create a better atmosphere for their employees’ working environment. Nothing could be worse than a negative image in the eyes of a shareholder, which would inevitably affect stock prices on the market.
